Tatiana Hengstler-”Shard”
‘Shard’ is a series of sculptures in the form of enlarged spearheads, as made by ancient craftsmen as far back as the Paleolithic era. Hengstler’s spearheads are sculpture rather than ready-mades, imitations or casts. Hengstler increases the utilitarian size of the spearhead, making it a different scale but retaining the traditional form, material and technique. Stripped of its function, the stone spearhead becomes a symbol of anthropocentrism, power and equivalent value. The rough cut form hints at diamond cutting as the highest manifestation of the rational. The stone spearhead can be seen as the forerunner of the silicon chip, the basic element of computer technology, which became the material basis of the information society. triumph-gallery.com
